Poetry, poetry, we learn its elements and features;

Poems, poems, we learn its structure and figures.

William Blake, W. Wordsworth, and W. Shakespeare!

We enjoy their works; now listen to another William here.

Introductory Poem

Hi, my name is Wen-long Hu,

William is just my English name.

If your name were William, too,

Then our names would be the same!

Now, as you know who I am,

Don’t hesitate to say hello to William

If I am not too old to be your friend,

Let’s learn together from beginning to end!

From Cradle to Grave

Today, we are happy to meet again;

We learn to write poems with a pen.

It is not as difficult as you might think;

Between poetry and life there is a link.

Poems are with you throughout your life,

Right after your birth till when you are not alive!

To start with, your mom would sing a lullaby with rhyme;

She tried hard to give you a sound sleeping time.

'Rock-a-bye Baby' is a nursery rhyme;

In North America, they call it a Mother Goose rhyme;

It is a traditional poem or song for babies.

It is sung to future gentlemen and ladies.

So, a lullaby is a poem sung softly to babies;

It is sung to help them sleep a sound sleep.

Now let’s sing together, first beautiful ladies;

Sing so sweetly that our love goes deep.

Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop,

When the wind blows, the cradle will rock,

When the bough ([baʊ] ) breaks, the cradle will fall,

And down will come baby, cradle and all.

"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is a popular English lullaby;

The English lyrics were first written as a poem by Jane Taylor.

Nowadays in the city it is not easy to see stars nearby;

Despite the light pollution, try to imagine stars from your parlor.

When the blazing sun is gone,
     When he nothing shines upon,
     Then you show your little light,
     Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Next, little boys and girls like to go out and play;

When it is raining, indoors they have to stay.

On a sofa or on the floor they have to lie;

It is no fun so they start to cry!

Soon teenagers fall in love even though they are still young;

They write poetic letters that are romantic to each other.

Poems become lyrics in songs as they are sung;

How nice to hear lovers sing them together!

The English Version of “月亮代表我的心

Images Of The Moon Full moons make you crazy.

The Moon Shows My Heart to You

You ask me how much I love you;

How truly I love you.

All my love is true;

I always love you.

The moon shows my heart to you.

You ask me how much I love you;

How truly I love you.

My heart never changes;

I keep my promises.

The moon shows my heart to you.

You gave me a sweet kiss;

That really touched my heart.

You gave me a smiling face;

That remains in my heart.

You ask me how much I love you;

How truly I love you.

Just think of the moon;

Look up at the moon.

The moon shows my heart to you.

Just think of the moon;

Look up at the moon.

The moon shows my heart to you.

Besides, lovers think the world is just for two of them!

世界は二人のために(世界多美麗) English Version

The World is So Wonderful

1

Sweetheart, let me hold you close and tight,

As we walk along in the moonlight.

The moon looks so very full and bright;

We will love each other day and night.

While we are together, the world is so beautiful;

While we are together, the world is so wonderful.

2

Last night you came to me in my dream,

       Saying you really loved that ice-cream.

       The one I gave to you by the stream,

       So sweet you could hardly wait to scream!

While we are together, the world is so beautiful;

While we are together, the world is so wonderful.

3

Summer, along the beach hand in hand,

As we take a walk on the white sand.

Winter, why not fly to our dreamland,

Where we stay always warm as we planned?

While we are together, the world is so beautiful;

While we are together, the world is so wonderful.

However, our life is not always rosy and easy;

Sometimes trials and hardships drive us crazy.

With a satisfied mind, life is full of joy;

With a grateful heart, any moment you can enjoy!

The English Versions of感恩的心”(中文歌詞譯版)

I came to this world, tiny as dust;

Who knows my fragility?

Where did I come from; where will my heart rest?

Who cares about me the moment next?

Though the earth is wide, my life trials are hard,

I’ve witnessed all sufferings in this world.

How much love I still have? How many tears I have to shed?

I will tell the world: I won’t give up!

With a grateful heart I give thanks to you,

For standing by me, giving me courage to touch my dreams;

With a grateful heart I embrace my fate;

I cherish my life, however hard it seems!

福音版

I came to this world, tiny as dust,

But not by coincidence!

What do I live for? Where to find my rest?

Dear God, help me with my confidence!

Though life trials are hard, temptations many,

I have no fears facing each day.

With His great love, with His amazing grace,

Lord has shown me: He is the Way!

With a grateful heart I give thanks to God,

All through my life, for His wonderful love!

With a grateful heart sing praises to God,

Quite joyfully, for His gracious love!

Finally, all good things in this world must end,

And any party or class has an end.

Let’s share “Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep”;

It is a poem, which touches many so deep.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a 1,000 winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow;
I am the sun on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled light;
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there; I did not die.

(The poem was written by Mary Elizabeth Frye)

I Am A Thousand Winds –a song by Hayley Westenra

Please do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am the sunlight on the ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.

I am a thousand winds. I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glint on snow. I am a thousand winds that blow.

Please do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there; I did not die.

I am the swift rush of birds in flight. I am soft stars that shine at night.

I am a thousand winds. I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glint on snow. I am a thousand winds that blow.
