In the first web meeting, I asked the students if we should apologize to the indigenous peoples in Taiwan.  Five out of six of them said that won't be necessary because we have offer many benefical arrangements to them. To name a few, the indigenous peoples get extral scores if they attend the university entrance exam or other national exams.  Well, to a certain extend, it's right.

First, I will say that our situation is different from that in Australia.  We haven't done such a bad thing as the Australian government did, that is, taking the children from their indigenous parents. Yes, we have not committed such a serious crime to break down indigenous families.  So we get a very solid reason to say " no, we don't havr any apology to make."  I agree that we didn't do the wrong as the Australian government, but to be honest, didn't we do some "minor" wrongs to taiwanese aborigines? Remember that they were forced to abandon their own family names and adopt Han family names? (although they are now allowed to revive their indigenous family names if they want.) Some people may think that this (changing family names) does not do any harm to them. Yes, I admit that physically they weren't hurt from it, but how about psychologically? Weret they not forced into an inferior status because of this?

Yes, probably we can proudly claim that we don't have to apologise, but don't we have some sorry to say to them?

My grandpa is good at Japanese.  I didn’t believe the language talent that he was proud of until one day he finished his autobiography of military experience in Japanese as mercenary in World War .  He misses his teacher of the elementary school for devotion to education.  Compared to Maria’s studying in English class, Maria and my grandpa were also born below the average in economics but still pursed their passion in education.

My grandpa and Lin’s handsome teacher of math also suffered the torture from the dictatorship of the government.  The elder grandpa of mine once sent his letters to his Japanese teacher, telling the injustice and immortal behavior of the KMT officers, but those letters were intercepted by the intelligent of the government.  Finally he was put in jail without the trial in the Court of Law for several months.  It’s the tragedy of my grandpa and the cold, cruel way by KMT to use each mean to oppress the people just to meet their desire to power.  The arrogant mayor of the Big Apple must be proud of his political act when he treated Maria unfriendly, he will feel regretful if someone criticized him on TV.
