Part two: intercultural understanding/awareness

Please visit the website which introduces bilingual education in the USA:

http://www.unavarra.es/tel2l/eng/usa.htm

And also watch the videos I have posted in the course website (in 課程活動

No Speak English)

What do you learn from all these information about bilingual education in the USA?

Language is an important tool to connect with people. These days most people seek a fun life but gradually forget where are from. But now patriotism is increasing, people realize the value of learning their mother tongue, and that it is a reflection of themselves and their heritage.

Part three: multicultural understanding/awareness

Now back to Taiwan. In Taiwan, when talking about bilingual education, we first think of English (too overwhelming, isn’t it? Always ENGLISH). Except from English, do we have other choices for bilingualism in Taiwan? (Keep in mind the new immigrants from Southeast Asian countries, e.g., Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.) What kind of bilingual education (or multilingual education) do we need in Taiwan? Please present your idea on this issue.

I think we have a lot choice for bilingualism in Taiwan. Taiwan is a diverse, multicultural country. We could set up national language academies such as “John Adam” in Taiwan for people from South East Asian countries.
